Land Of The Free, Home Of The Brave

Back in May I wrote about it.  I'm emotional about the subject.  I can't pull away from the coverage.  I still haven't watched the DVR about the children.  I'm just not sure I can.  The children.  Their lives now lived for the past 10 years without a mom or a dad or maybe both.  It simply makes my heart crumble into teeny tiny pieces.

As I think about it, I am still very angry.  However that anger is overcome by my gratitude towards all of the men and women who survived that devastating day.  All of those men and women who spent hours upon days helping one another.

As we approach the anniversary, there are posts, tweets, blogs starting to fill social media about what you were doing, where you were, pictures of NYC, etc.  However, I came across a saying today in a friends pictures on Facebook (he's a retired Firefighter) from the Memorial in New York City and it speaks volumes, Dedicated To Those Who Fell and Those Who Carry On.

It's been 10 years on Sunday.  This weekend make a pledge to yourself to give back in some way.  Volunteer, donate blood, discuss emergency preparedness with your families, do something.  At the end of the day, we need to learn from these "experiences" and realize what we need to do to better our communities.  We can't control outside forces, but we can take control of our selves and our families to be sure we are prepared in the event of an emergency.  We have to think about, we have to talk about it.  It's not going to go away.  I wish that it would.  I don't want to have to explain it to my daughter, but someday I will.

Hold your families and close ones even closer and be sure to take a moment Sunday to remember those we lost that fateful day.  Remember and Never Forget.

You are right on with this post. I too cannot stop watching the coverage and found myself a blubbering mess this weekend but my pain in watching cannot even match the pain of those whose lives are being shared. I hope you had a wonderful weekend with your family...we have SO much to be thankful for:)
