Somersaults and Such

My kid is amazing, that we already knew, but a gymnast...didn't see that one coming. She is bred from two tall people, so I never really thought tumbling would be her calling. It just so happens within the past few days she has started doing somersaults on her own. She and I "wrastle" almost every night after dinner. It's fun, we laugh and smile...a lot! She does a lot of flips, with my assistance and normally backwards. She loves to be upside down. For some time she has been doing the downward facing dog yoga pose and holding it, just chillin' with her forehead on the floor. It's cute, adorable actually. Well from here, she decided to go for it and did a forward somersault. Now she is rolling all over the family room and playroom. I'm trying not to be nervous as she gets too close to the brick fireplace or the corner of the wall. She appears fearless and I've always told my hubby that she will grow up to be into Xtreme Sports, ride a dirt bike, or something crazy that will age me quickly. She's been climbing and jumping off (ok not quite, but close) furniture for a long time. So far, so good. I'm not a nervous Mom. I don't want a cry baby or a Shy Sally. Her Daddy and I are both pretty outgoing people and I want her to be the same. It's ok to bump into walls and furniture every once and a while. I'm not going to put padding up in my house. She'll learn, she's no dumbie! I keep an eye on her. I am her Mom and it's part of the job description. My favorite activity of hers, that I try not to watch, is in the evening as we near night night time and she decides to start running through the house with her blankie over her head. She laughs at herself as she bumps off of the walls, the furniture, the dogs, me, Daddy. I keep saying, "one of these days." And Mia, it's ok...if a gymnast is your calling then we'll support you 150%. I will forever hope that you will play volleyball like Mommy, but if you don't I won't love you any less. No matter what, you're Daddy and I will be by your side as you determine your aspirations and your dreams (just please don't let them involve multiple bizarre piercings). Dr. C says you're the size of a 2 year old, so at this pace, you may just be the first Olympic gymnast that is 6 feet tall. Sorry for the lack of spacing and no paragraph separation, for some reason Blogger is not letting me do it.

Peanut has totally been fearless, too (although as she gets older she's a bit more hesitant). I'm waiting to see how much of that fearlessness she maintains as she gets older!!
